Aave price development in recent years

Aave price has moved between tens of dollars and hundreds of dollars in recent years. At the time of writing the article, the ATH price of Aave is a whopping $667. This was achieved in May 2022. Can you believe that it was possible to buy Aave for $0.02 just a couple of years ago?

This is because Aave was formerly known as Ethlend. Its token had the ticker LEND. The service was rebranded to Aave in early 2020. The token LEND, on the other hand, became the AAVE token only in November 2020.

At the same time as the LEND became AAVE, a 100:1 conversion was completed. This means that 100 LEND tokens were converted into one AAVE token. The LEND token was trading at $0.53 at the time, which translates to a $53 price for the AAVE token in its inception. At the beginning of 2020, you could buy the LEND token for only 0.02 dollars!

The chart below shows the price history of Aave. It starts at the end of 2020 with a price of around $53.

aave price history

Aave price went to the moon in the spring of 2021 along with the rest of the market. At that time, Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other well-known cryptocurrencies also rose by hundreds of percent.

In the summer of 2021, the entire market collapsed, led by Bitcoin. The AAVE token also fell well over 50 percent at that time, from a high of $667 down to almost $185.

The crypto market recovered in the fall of 2021 and most currencies rose to new ATH prices in November. However, DeFi tokens never reached new highs. This means AAVE never reached new ATH price either. The price development turned downward in August 2021. This decline continued until January 2023.

How does Aave work?

Aave is a DeFi lending platform and also known as a liquidity protocol. DeFi comes from the words decentralized finance. A lending platform means that Aave works like a decentralized bank. Below is a picture from Aave’s front page.

You can deposit cryptocurrency in Aave and get a yield on it. Alternatively, you can take out a loan against the cryptocurrency you have deposited. This is only possible through over-collateralization, i.e. you can get a $1000 loan by depositing $1500 as collateral.

If the value of your collateral falls close to the value of the loan, Aave will liquidate your collateral. It means your cryptocurrency will be sold on the market to pay off the loan. This will make sure that the Aave protocol won’t suffer losses from any loans.

Aave works completely automated and uses smart contracts. Anyone can use the app through a Web3 wallet like MetaMask. Aave does not include a KYC process, registration, or any other human-controlled steps.

The Aave token is a governance token, so you don’t need it to use the app. Because of this, the Aave price does not rise or fall according to the activity of the Aave app.

The summer of 2022 saw a lot of bankruptcies in the crypto market due to hundreds of millions of dollars in loans between traditional companies. At the same time, the DeFi market operated without problems or bad loans.

Aave is a Finnish project

Aave is not the only Finnish service on the market. However, it is definitely the most famous and the biggest one.

Aave is founded by Stani Kulechov. He is still the leader and the front figure of the project. Today, Stani works at Aave’s head office in London. Stani Kulechov has also made some visits to the Finnish media. However, the man is not widely known outside the crypto industry.

There may be other Finns in the Aave project, but the exact number is currently unknown. Aave is mostly called a Finnish project due to its founder and CEO. In other respects, it is an international project just like other cryptocurrencies.

Hopefully, other well-known currencies will emerge from Finland. The EUROe stablecoin is a good example of this. The whole of Scandinavia definitely needs more presence in the crypto industry. Northern Europe is not well presented yet.

Aave price forecast

Let’s do the Aave price forecast. What does the Aave price and its future look like? So far, very bright, even if the tightening of regulations can throw a wrench in the gears.

The positive forecast is influenced by Aave’s continuous development. Aave V1 was released in the spring of 2020. Aave V2 was already released in December 2020. Aave V3, released in the spring of 2022, improved the application even more and brought many new features.

In addition to this, Aave has also expanded its development work into the sector of decentralized social media services. Aave launched the Lens protocol in the spring of 2022. It gives tools for developers to build a decentralized Twitter, where users own their content and their social media profiles.

The AAVE app will also benefit from the GHO stablecoin. It will be somewhat similar to DAI controlled by Maker. There will be definitely some yield bonuses for investors who provide GHO liquidity in the Aave app. It’ll be probably cheaper to loan out GHO as well.

Aave’s position in the DeFi sector is also stable. It has consistently been one of the industry’s largest protocols in terms of liquidity (TVL). This gives a strong foundation for the Aave price to develop,

The biggest question mark is related to the demand for the Aave token. Since it is an administrative token, Aave is not needed to use the app. This makes the Aave price very difficult to predict – even by the standards of cryptocurrencies.

It is likely that the price of Aave will run higher when the entire DeFi sector is in a bull market. Historically, all DeFi tokens have moved up and down simultaneously.
