Bitcoin team Real Bedford FC won promotion

The English “Bitcoin team” Real Bedford FC won a promotion on Tuesday. Real Bedford beat London Lions 2–0 at home, securing the league title before the final round of the season.

Below is Real Bedford’s X post on the subject.

Real Bedford is an unknown team to many football fans and crypto investors. It’s a fascinating Bitcoin project with big goals. This is why we want to report on Real Bedford’s journey.

Peter Cormack is the man behind Real Bedford FC. He is known for the What Bitcoin Did podcast, which has a strong Bitcoin theme. McCormack has also made a documentary about El Salvador’s Bitcoin revolution and is working on a documentary about Bitcoin adoption in Africa.

McCormack bought his hometown Bedford football club a few years ago and renamed it Real Bedford FC. It was a small and insignificant football club without resources in England’s 10th-highest league level.

Peter McCormack has acquired sponsors from the Bitcoin world and vastly improved the club’s infrastructure. Real Bedford’s games are also streamed, and the club has developed a solid fan base. Many of the new fans are also Bitcoin investors.

Real Bedford’s success and the community it has built have already attracted more investors. Last week, the club announced that the famous Winklevoss brothers will invest $4.5 million in Real Bedford and become its owners.

Many remember the Winklevoss brothers from the movie The Social Network. They invested a lot in Bitcoin early on and became extremely wealthy. Winklevoss brothers founded the Gemini crypto exchange, also Real Bedford’s shirt sponsor this season.

Other crypto sponsors of the club include Ledger, Orange Pill App, Galaxy Digital, and CoinCorner.

Real Bedford started from the 10th highest league level in England. We saw the first league promotion a year ago, and this week, the promotion to the 8th-highest league level was confirmed. According to Peter McCormack, the club’s goal is the Premier League.

The top four levels are professional leagues, so more promotions should be possible, even with smaller resources.
